Blood on the Clocktower Toronto

Every Saturday, someone in the circle is the Demon.

BCTO is Toronto's premier Blood on the Clocktower community: welcoming, organized, and built for players who love great games, great stories, and great people. We're a free, volunteer-run organization, and we play every Saturday in downtown Toronto. New players are welcome.

About us

Over ten years of lying to our friends, and they keep coming back.

In 2015, Dimitrios started organizing Sunday pub board games with Toronto Boardgamers. In 2016 came Saturday social deduction games: first Werewolf, then Blood on the Clocktower in 2018.

Today, with the help of our other organizers, that has grown into BCTO: weekly game days, special events, and a thriving social community where everyone can play, learn, and belong. Organizers storytell, teach new players and keep the games moving.

New to the game? We strongly recommend playing 5 beginner games before moving up, so you're not lost in the higher rooms.

Friendly guidance and plenty of laughs while you learn the basics. Usually Trouble Brewing or Everyone Can Play.

Intermediate

For players who know the core rules and want new roles and trickier deduction, from the base scripts to customs like Catfishing.

Advanced

Complex custom scripts, experimental characters and mind-bending puzzles for experienced players.

Getting there

OISE, University of Toronto

Parking and access: OISE has details on parking and getting into the building from the street or the TTC.

New here?

Learn the basics. We'll help with the rest.

You only need the basics to sit down and play. Nobody expects you to be an expert, and you'll keep learning with every game.

  • It's free.No membership, no catch.
  • Come alone or with friends.Everyone registers ahead of time, and we'll find you a spot in a circle.
  • Beginners are welcome. We run circles that are good places to learn, and Storytellers explain as you play.
  • Learn over time.Organizers and regulars are happy to answer questions, before, during and after a game.
The basics in 60 seconds

Good against evil, and nobody knows who's who.

Everyone gets a secret character. The good team has to find and execute the Demon. The evil team bluffs, misleads and kills until only two players are left alive. A Storyteller runs the game and knows everything.

Good team

  • TownsfolkHelpful abilities
  • OutsidersAbilities that can backfire

Evil team

  • MinionsHelp the Demon hide
  • DemonKills each night

Dying isn't the end. Dead players keep talking and still get one final vote. That's enough to play your first game; the rest comes with practice.

FAQ

Questions we get every week

Still wondering about something? Ask any organizer on game day, or get in touch.

Is it really free?

Yes. BCTO is run by volunteers and there's no cost to play.

Do I need to know the rules?

Just the basics. Read the 60-second overview above and watch this video to understand how it works. Storytellers explain as you play, and organizers and regulars help new players learn the game over time.

Can I bring friends?

Yes, as long as each of them registers for the game day ahead of time.

Can I just drop in, or come to watch?

No. Registration is required for every game day, and we can't accommodate walk-ins or observers.

How long is a game?

Most games take 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the number of players and the script.

Can I leave partway through the day?

Yes, once a game has finished. If you're playing as a Traveller, you can leave at any point during the game. If you need to leave early or need any other accommodation, talk to your Storyteller.

Is the venue accessible?

OISE's building access page covers parking and getting in from the street or the TTC: OISE building access. If you need an accommodation during a game, talk to your Storyteller.

How do I become a Storyteller?

We have organizers who are equipped to storytell with us, and a few others who help out when needed. If you're interested, get in touch by email. Introduce yourself and your experience, and we'll get back to you as needed.
