Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

Welcome to Blood on the Clocktower – Toronto! Our goal is to create a fun, inclusive, and respectful environment where everyone feels welcome. To ensure a positive experience for all participants, we ask that you follow our Code of Conduct.

A Respect Everyone

  1. Treat all members with kindness and courtesy.
  2. Use people's preferred pronouns or, if unknown, gender-neutral pronouns and terms.
  3. Harassment, discrimination, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated, including inappropriate or repeated comments, text messages, or online behavior. This applies to behaviour towards our members outside of our events as well.
  4. Be mindful of the impact of your words and actions. Backhanded or passive-aggressive comments, even if unintentional, can harm relationships and group cohesion.
  5. Respect differing opinions, play styles, and experiences.
  6. Express opinions, particularly about games and play styles, subjectively (e.g., “I believe” or “I like”).

B At Events

  1. Try to arrive on time and notify the organizers if your plans change.
  2. Read provided information about the group, events, and games to ensure preparedness.
  3. Use a conversational volume and avoid speaking over others.
  4. Help keep spaces clean by picking up garbage and cleaning spills.
  5. Support hosting venues by making purchases when possible.
  6. Pay your venue bills, and tip waitstaff.

C In Games

  1. Allow the storytellers to teach and answer questions without interruption.
  2. Be patient with others, offering strategic suggestions only if requested.
  3. Stay focused on the game by silencing phones and avoiding distractions.
  4. If you are not participating in a game, please avoid interrupting its play. Instead, ask to join the game at an appropriate moment or wait quietly outside the gameplay area until invited to participate.
  5. Treat game components with care to prevent damage or loss. If you damage pieces, you are responsible for replacing them in full.
  6. Prioritize fun over competition and maintain positivity regardless of the outcome.
  7. Apologize for errors, acknowledge weaknesses, and correct problematic behaviors. Social games can sometimes lead to heated discussions or disagreements, and it’s easy to lose sight of the fun and camaraderie. We understand that this can happen, but we encourage everyone to remain mindful of the group’s spirit of inclusivity and enjoyment, striving to improve interactions when things become tense.

D No Solicitation

  1. Members are not permitted to ask for money, personal loans, or favors from others.
  2. Business pitches, multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes, or attempts to sell goods and services to other members are prohibited.
  3. While members may occasionally offer to cover food or drinks out of kindness, this must remain voluntary. Soliciting others for personal expenses, such as food or drinks, is not allowed.
  4. If you need assistance, speak with the group organizers privately or seek help from local resources.

E Communicate Openly

  1. If a conflict arises, handle it respectfully or bring it to the attention of the organizers.
  2. Feedback is welcome—let us know how we can improve our events and group experience.
  3. Apologize for misunderstandings or mistakes and be open to resolving them collaboratively.

F Online Play

All established Code of Conduct rules apply during online play. Avoid spoiling games with screenshots, screen captures, or breaking the rules of the game. Play in the spirit of the game to ensure an enjoyable and immersive experience for everyone. Additionally:

  1. Stay attentive during nighttime phases, as prompts from the storyteller may require your immediate response.
  2. Remain committed until the game concludes, as full participation is essential to completing the experience.
  3. Use respectful and appropriate language in chat and voice channels.
  4. Avoid disruptive behaviors such as interrupting others or spamming chat features.
  5. Ensure a stable internet connection and be prepared to fully engage.
  6. Limit distractions and maintain focus to enhance the game for all participants.

G Please Respect the Grimoire and Game Materials

The Grimoire is the private property of the storyteller and contains sensitive, spoiler-filled information. Do not look inside, touch, or move the Grimoire—or any other game components—unless you’ve asked first. Even a quick glance can accidentally jostle tokens or disrupt the game.

Grimoires and game sets are expensive and personal. Damaging any part of them may require you to replace the item at full cost. Please be respectful so we can all enjoy the game.

H Consequences for Violations

  1. The organizers will review reported issues on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Depending on the severity of the situation, consequences may range from a warning to removal from the group.
